Saturday 15 June | 1 -2pm
Come and join Sara Lindsay for an illustrated talk on the Karen Weavers, tracing the life of the extraordinary women from rural Myanmar to their new life in Melbourne. Karen Artists, Munaw Poe and Shuklay Tahpo, learnt tapestry weaving from their mentor, Sara Lindsay, in 2013. They will demonstrate the process that has inspired them to create vibrant, highly patterned tapestries straight from their imagination onto the loom. Come along and watch them weave.
Sara Lindsay was a foundation weaver at the Australian Tapestry Workshop where she worked for 14 years before leaving to run the Textiles Studio at the Tasmanian School of Art in Hobart. Since 1991 Sara has exhibited extensively, both nationally and internationally and has initiated many curatorial projects. In 2013 Sara taught a group of Karen Refugee Women to weave.
She has continued to mentor a small group whose work is represented in Free Weaving : Karen Tapestries and Collages.
